The owner of this 126-year-old farmhouse, though fond of its timeless charm, was weary of the constant repairs and repainting demanded by the old wooden siding. Recognizing the need to modernize the exterior to better protect the interior from the elements of Evanston, IL’s weather, they decided it was time for an upgrade. Preserving Historic Charm with Hardie® Siding
The homeowner aimed to preserve the traditional farmhouse style with wood siding while seeking an alternative low-maintenance material. Our project advisor took time to craft a fitting solution for this homeowner and proposed using Hardie fiber cement siding. To ensure complete satisfaction, our project advisor provided a 3D rendering, allowing the homeowner to explore various color combinations until they found the perfect match.
Putting the Finishing Touches on with Premium Materials
Built in 1897, this historic home required our crews to exercise extra care throughout the project. Due to its age, they encountered and replaced significant amounts of rotted sheathing and insulation.
After using our 3D model, the homeowner opted for Hardie Cedarmill plank siding and staggered shake siding in Gray Slate, complemented by Hardie trim in Arctic White. To complete the new look, we installed energy-efficient Marvin windows, aluminum soffit and fascia, and modern black seamless aluminum gutters and downspouts.
