Stucco Home in Crucial Need of Remodeling
These homeowners needed a large-scale renovation on their turn of the century stucco house. They had a strong objection to the look and texture of stucco, and hired Siding & Windows Group to completely modernize their home.
Besides new siding, they initially wanted a new standing seam metal roof, but we explained what steps needed to be done first with the entire scope of the renovation and how to properly deal with the roof flashing so the installation would be the right way in the right order.
We helped the homeowners for two months with design and alterations. They decided on modernizing their home with a black-on-black color look.
Overcoming Home Challenges with Modern Solutions
We updated their siding with the James Hardie Dream Collection custom color Anchor Black and Sherwin Williams Caviar Black, in two sizes, 7 ¼“ siding (6” exposure) on the porch and first elevation and garage, and 5 ¼” siding (4” exposure) on the second elevation and dormers. HardieTrim and frieze boards were also installed in the same color.
Their new roof was installed using the GAF Signature Timberline HDZ Shingles Roof System in the color Charcoal, along with a Velux skylight on the east side of the roof. In the rear elevation bump out, a standing seam metal roof was installed.
We installed gorgeous windows from Marvin’s Ultimate line throughout their home in an ebony clad exterior, and painted white on the finished pine interior. One challenge we faced was the windows didn’t line up exactly, so the crew lead was essential in seeing how the windows would look the best.
Openings had to be rebuilt and bottom sills adjusted, so everything would be level and straight. The homeowners were thrilled that we were able to work through challenges with the windows. There was minimal delay, and they had windows on the same day, which was especially important, as we were working in mid-February in Chicago weather!
Another challenge that was presented during demolition was that this home was built prior to 1970 and had little insulation. We made sure to add additional insulation so the homeowners would feel comfortable in their house during all seasons.
Lastly, we installed three sliding patio doors from Marvin’s Elevate line; two on the front porch and one on the back of home. The doors had an ebony exterior and white interior to nicely match the new windows!
An Exceptional Installation Experience
The homeowners were ecstatic with the project consultant’s attention to detail and prompt responses and changes to the designs. They were also grateful to the crew leader for his flexibility to accommodate and handle issues on site in a timely manner.
Concerning the windows challenge mentioned above, when the homeowners changed their minds and it was too late for the vendor to come back out, our Siding & Windows Group team moved the porta-potties to another location on the site immediately. We wanted to make the process as enjoyable as possible!
