A homeowner needed a renovation for his Chicago home’s exterior. The Andersonville neighborhood he lives in is populated with traditional 19th century 4-Square and Victorian cottages on a tree-lined street, many of which include charming older accents.
The client wanted to replace his failing siding and deteriorating windows with more durable products while preserving the home’s historic details. In addition, the old siding included asbestos, which was beginning to crumble. The homeowner decided to work with us following a referral from a friend.

This project was especially challenging due to asbestos in the old siding. The client had difficulty finding a contractor with the credentials to remove the material, but we were able to work with a demolition company that could take on the challenge.
We presented the client with several options and he chose James Hardie siding for its durability as well as its customization options that allowed him to maintain his home’s original characteristics. He selected James Hardie’s HardiePlank Lap Siding with the Cedarmill texture in Boothbay Blue and HardieTrim boards in a smooth texture for the windows and doors.

To preserve the original window sills, we wrapped them in aluminum and added Azek Crown Molding. The finishing touch was a sweeping three-level porch in wood with a natural finish.
